Aida Live in HD from the NY Metropolitan Opera
Join fellow opera lovers at the Met’s unforgettable production of Verdi’s ancient Egyptian Drama about an enslaved Ethiopian princess caught in a love triangle with the hero Radamés and the proud Egyptian princess Amneris. The production features the Met’s magnificent chorus and choreography. Aida met with great acclaim when it finally opened in Cairo on 24 December 1871. It continues to be a staple of the standard operatic repertoire and appears as number 13 on the Operabase list of the most-performed operas worldwide. As of 2007, the Metropolitan Opera alone has given more than 1,100 performances of the opera, making it the second most frequently performed work by the company behind La bohème. This Saturdays’ Broadcast begins at 11 am and runtime is 4 hours.
Frederic Boloix will give a pre-opera lecture on the music of Aida on Thursday, December 13 at 5:30 pm at his art gallery in the Galleria Building.
