Children's Activities (winter)
Sun Valley has always been a great year-round family destination and in winter this is more true than ever. There’s almost no limit to the amount of winter programs and activities families can enjoy together. No matter what your age or ability, you’ll never run out of things to do in Sun Valley.
If your family skis or snowboards, Sun Valley boasts an unparalleled variety of skiing terrain on Bald Mountain, from the gentlest cruiser runs to steep bumps, open bowls and trees. Teens will be challenged at the resort’s super pipe. Neighboring Dollar Mountain, considered a beginner’s paradise, offers long, gentle sloping runs groomed to perfection, perfect for young ones just learning how to ski. Dollar Mountain has its own terrain park as well as a new tubing hill for hours of sledding fun.
Sun Valley offers a variety of excellent ski school programs for kids of all ages on both mountains, as well as day care services and even kids-ski-free days.
Off slope activities for the adventurous family abound in Sun Valley. Spend a day with the kids Nordic skiing the many miles of trails at the Sun Valley Nordic Center or at Galena Lodge, where lessons and rentals are available for children as young as 2 years old. Or try a guided snowshoe tour with the family to a cozy yurt. Be sure to take the family for a few turns around the legendary Sun Valley Ice Rink, or simply spend a relaxing day wandering through the dozens of specialty shops. Sledding in town with the kids on Penny Hill is a Sun Valley tradition.
Sun Valley offers numerous fine dining option as well as plenty of casual restaurants perfect for families. You’ll also not want to miss taking the kids on a horse-drawn sleigh ride to a hearty dinner at the legendary Trail Creek Cabin.
Whatever your vacation goals, whatever your age, whatever your ability level, Sun Valley is the perfect winter resort for families.
