A traditional winter experience here in Sun Valley is an old fashioned sleigh ride through the snow to Trail Creek Cabin, a secluded restaurant and former hunting lodge frequented by Ernest Hemingway tucked in the forest just outside the Sun Valley Resort. A perfect ending to an invigorating day on the slopes, you’ll nestle beneath blankets and gaze up at the stars as the horse-drawn sleigh jingles its way along Warm Springs Creek where you’ll chance to see elk grazing on the way to the cabin.
The purchase of a sleigh ride ticket confirms a reservation for dinner at Trail Creek Cabin and sleighs leave the Sun Valley Inn at 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Three sleighs depart at each time and each sleigh carries about 20 people for the approximately 30 minute ride. Dress should be warm and blankets are provided.
For those looking for something a little different, “A Winter’s Feast” is another sleigh ride option. Visitors take a horse-drawn sleigh ride to a most unique atmosphere in Sun Valley, an authentic Mongolian yurt, where they’ll enjoy a 5-course gourmet dinner.
Sleigh rides without food are also available for individuals and groups through Warm Springs Sleighs. Enjoy the scenic, creekside ride through the Warm Springs area. Sleighs are pulled by two draft horses and are capable of handling groups of 13-16 people.
