Sun Valley Writers' Conference @ Sun Valley Resort
12:00 am
We are still formulating our plans for the 2021 Conference. Our highest priority is the safety of our attendees, writers, and staff. While we do not yet know exactly what shape SVWC will take next year, we do know that even with optimistic planning, the experience must differ from years past. We anticipate that we will have to reimagine any sort of in-person gathering in order to safely host our writers and attendees on the Sun Valley Resort campus and we are making preliminary plans for next July with a scaled-back program and limited attendance. We are also consulting with legal and medical advisors and reaching out to writers. Just as soon as we have a better sense of how we can proceed, we will provide more information about our plans and any options to purchase passes. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate any converted 2020 passes in 2021. If you have any questions, please email us at info@svwc.com or call 208.726.5454. Thank you for your support and understanding as we work through this challenging situation and please stay well.  Pass Cancellation Policy: If your plans change and you are no longer able to use your pass, you may request a cancellation up until May 15 ...

Sawtooth Valley Gathering @ Sawtooth Valley Pioneer Park | Stanley | Idaho | United States
12:00 am
Dearest Sawtooth Family, While we held out hope to be together in our home away from home this year, all things considered, we just can’t find the ethical grounds to proceed as planned in light of the current COVID-19 status. With that said, together with the City of Stanley, we’ve decided to postpone the 6th annual Sawtooth Valley Gathering to the summer of 2021. We feel that this will give us the best chance to festival with the comfort, freedom, and safety that we’ve always known, and look forward to the opportunity of sharing that space again soon. We’re going to follow up with our new dates and full rollover information next week, so please stay tuned. The Sawtooth Valley Gathering is a dream that has existed largely through the support of our loyal fans and local businesses. Boutique festivals like ours basically start at zero each year and slowly come to life via ticket sales. That money goes towards expenses and deposits, most of which can’t be recovered or transferred. With that in mind, we hope that you, the ticket buyer, will consider investing in our event by rolling over your purchase to join us next summer. Doing so ...

The 2021 Ernest Hemingway Seminar, initially scheduled for Fall 2020, will celebrate two short stories and Hemingway’s time in Africa. We’ll read “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” and “The Snows of Kilimanjaro,” both published in 1936 following Ernest and Pauline’s three-month safari in 1933. Both stories can be read online by clicking their titles above, or in multiple print editions, including The Complete Short Stories: The Finca Vigía Edition. For three days we will explore these texts and the history surrounding them. In addition to a dynamic array of lectures and opportunities for discussion, we will enjoy films, good food, and fellowship, all of which make this Hemingway seminar unique. Registration for the seminar will open in Spring 2021. If you’d like to receive updates about the program, you can join the mailing list here. Trailing of the Sheep - 25th Anniversary! @ Various Locations
12:00 am
The Trailing of the Sheep Festival was started in 1996 in response to the rapid loss of farms and ranches and the rapid growth in the Wood River Valley. The Festival preserves the stories and colorful history of sheep ranchers and herders, celebrates the rich cultures of the past and present and entertains and educates children, adults and families about the production of local food and fiber that sustain local economies and generations of hard-working families. Our mission is: To gather, present and preserve the history and culture of the families and individual men and women involved in Idaho sheep ranching and to honor their contributions to the development of Idaho and the West. Trailing of the Sheep has been named in the Top Ten Fall Festivals in the World, Top 200 Best U.S. Festivals and the Top 100 Festivals in N. America. In 2013, USA Today named it One of the Top Ten Fall Festivals in America.  It is also the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Cultural Heritage.

Become One of the Thousands of Jazz Fans Who Have Been Delighted Since 1990! This experience of telling the story of “American” music is our passion. Amazing isn’t it? We all get to be part of this history while it’s still in the making. The names that ring through eternity—Armstrong, Ellington, Fitzgerald, Beiderbecke, Goodman, Holliday, Basie, Shaw, Miller, and so many more—have created a legacy of delight that lives on through those of us who participate in this jazz festival. The history of this music echoes the history of twentieth century America. This jazz event is held this year because of your continued support and encouragement. You tell people how much fun it is and that they need to come to Sun Valley. It continues because people have a heart to support the event and because ...
