One of the most popular holiday traditions in the Wood River Valley is the 16th annual Turkey Trot held on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28.  The 5K Fun Run and Walk, sponsored by The Chamber – Hailey & Wood River Valley, is a great community event and is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. Nearly 600 folks are expected to enjoy trotting on Thanksgiving Day in downtown Hailey, along the Big Wood River and through the Wood River Land Trust’s beautiful Draper Wood River Preserve. The Turkey Trot starts at 10:00am at Sturtevant’s in Hailey, located at 1 West Carbonate.  As Chamber Executive Director Mike McKenna notes, “It’s the perfect way to burn off some calories with your friends and neighbors before the big feast. We invite you to come out and join us.” All participants are strongly encouraged to pre-register online through 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 27 at www.haileyidaho.com. Held in memory of former Sun Valley Company owner Bill Janss, the Janss Pro-Am Classic has long held the reputation as the “best party on snow.” Skiers and snowboarders of all abilities join forces with a pro to form a team of six; the squads go head-to-head in a dual giant slalom format on world-famous Bald Mountain. Racing is handicapped to give all participants the opportunity to win, whether they are World Cup racers or recreational skiers. Did we mention costumes? Each Janss Pro-Am Classic event has a theme, and teams are encouraged to dress up and wear their costumes accordingly – on and off the slope. Prizes are awarded for Best Costume, Fastest Pros, Fastest Amateurs, Fastest Team, Lee Gilman Most Inspirational, Best Crash, and Championship Team. Western Spirit Cycling has partnered with Sun Valley to provide a second Outerbike in one of the bucket list locations of mountain biking. With over 400 miles of singletrack spread throughout the valley, the mountain biking is some of the best—and most scenic—in the country. Bald Mountain now boasts America’s longest purpose-built downhill and 3,100 feet of thrilling lift-accessed trails (including two new downhill rides!). For a milder experience, riders can head to the White Clouds trail network or take the leafy Wood River Trail, to any number of mixed ability trails in the Adams Gulch area. Returning in 2020!
