Sturtevants' Standhope Ultra Challenge
12:00 am
The Standhope 60K/30K is an impressive point to point course through Idaho’s Pioneer Mountains. The higher I get, the higher I get! A very difficult and exceptionally beautiful run through the Pioneer Mountains. Entrants will reach a high point of 11,000′ during the course of the race. Entry should NOT be taken lightly. This race is an excellent trainer for any high-altitude 50 or 100 Miler. Runners will receive a unique award for finishing this event. Our major goal in 2021 is to raise $3,000 for the ARPKD/CHF Alliance. 30K OPTION: This will take place over the last half of the 60K, and is no joke. Please do not sign up for this event unless you are prepared for a long, tough day in the mountains. With an average vertical climb of 325′ per mile and the added challenge of traversing remote terrain this race will challenge even the best athletes. ALL your aid is hiked in. Runners typically take four to six hours to finish this incredible 30 Km race. Much like the Sarlacc from “Return of the Jedi,” you will find a new definition of pain and suffering, only maybe not over the course of 1,000 years.

The race course will follow a jeep road to the top of the shield volcano, then around the Crater Rings. Be prepared for some strenuous ups and downs. Adding to the challenge will be the desert heat, which is certain to conjure up images of the craters’ ancient lakes of molten lava. We also have a 2.9 mile out-and-back course that leads to a spectacular view of the east crater. This is a great option for those who would like to experience the craters, but don’t really want to travel all the way around them on a rough and challenging course.
