Join us at Galena Lodge for one of our incredible Full Moon dinners. A night of food, fun and maybe skiing or snowshoeing if you can muster the energy. Dinner is one seating at 6:30pm. Seating is communal style so be prepared to make some new friends. We ask that you arrive by 6-6:15pm (or earlier if you want) so that we can sit down for dinner at 6:30pm. Dinner is a set 4-course menu with your choice of entrees. Please let us know in advance if you have any dietary issues. Cost for dinner is $50/person not including drinks, tax or gratuity. Galena has a fantastic wine list, beers on tap and a full liquor bar. Reservations are recommended for this dinner.

Join the Environmental Resource Center (ERC) and local birding extraordinaire Poo Wright-Pulliam for an introductory presentation and birding walk about local winter birds. Poo will introduce common winter birds in Ketchum during a presentation then lead the group on a walk around Ketchum to look for these species. The presentation will begin at 10:30AM at The Community Library. A walk around Ketchum to observe local species will directly follow. Participants are encouraged to attend both the presentation and walk. There is a suggested donation of $10/ERC member and $20/non-member. Pre-registration is required. Join the ERC and long-time Wood River Valley resident and tracking extraordinaire, Ann Christensen, for winter tracking workshops. Ann begins each program at the ERC office, introducing participants to our local winter animals, their life-histories and winter adaptations while laying out some basics about tracking. Participants then head outside on a snowshoe tracking adventure through the fields and woods north of town. Ann, who studied with famous tracker and author James Halfpenny, has been introducing valley residents and visitors to the secret stories left in the snow for decades. Bring snowshoes, warm clothes, water, and your curiosity. There is a suggested donation of $10/ERC members and $20/non-members. Space is limited, so register today! L1 Avalanche Certification Course @ Sun Valley Guides | Ketchum | Idaho | United States

This intensive course is a comprehensive introduction to avalanche phenomena as it relates to backcountry skiers and snowboarders. The course format will emphasize practical avalanche awareness and safety measures through hands-on learning. The entire backcountry course will be based in Ketchum and the field portion in the mountains of the Wood River headwaters. The course format will comprise a mix of classroom theory and field practice while touring and evaluating avalanche terrain. Students will receive a certification of completion for a Level 1 Avalanche Training Course as outlined by the American Avalanche Association. Course text included.

Ski Free Day on Sunday, December 1, 2019. Two days each winter, the BCRD offers Nordic and snowshoe trails free to the community. Free Nordic skiing or snowshoeing on all BCRD winter trails throughout the valley! Nordic Demo Day will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Galena Lodge. This is a one day course for backcountry recreationalists, aspiring professionals, Search & Rescue volunteers, and/or EMS/LE looking to refine their companion rescue skills and continue their education into more advanced rescue techniques. It will review all the parts of companion rescue and how to use the marking function and micro strip searches for multiple burials. Students will receive a certification of completion for an Avalanche Rescue course as outlined by the American Avalanche Association. Do you ever wonder about that worse case scenario… when you’re skiing down your last run of the day and then hit that hidden rock or tree? Now you’re laying out on the ground with a fractured tibia and wondering what to do next. This is the course for you! Put your own rescue sled to the test and see how it holds up. Get a chance to use a SKED rescue stretcher (used by SAR and ski guides) and the Alpine Threadworks Ski Guides’ Rescue Sled (professional standard). Learn how to package patients into a sled and tips for getting patients safely down to the trailhead for EMS. Is night fall close? This course will also teach you how to increase your chances of surviving the night by building a snow quinzee, using the rescue tarp for shelter, or other improvised shelters.
