SVWellness, in partnership with UW Medical and the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation, have made the highly acclaimed presentation by Seth Cohen, MD, MSc entitled COVID-19; Past, Present and Future available to the public for free. Dr. Cohen, University of Washington Director of Infectious Disease Medicine, has been on the frontlines of COVID-19 since the pandemic began. The video is available at www.sunvalleywellness.org. Megan Thomas, chief development officer of the St Luke’s Wood River said, “This information is so timely and important that we wanted to make sure it is widely accessible to all.”  Friesen noted that respected local retired doctor, Dr. Scott McLean, publicly posted on social media that the presentation by Dr. Cohen on COVID-19 was “the single best medical lecture, I have ever heard. It is a must-see”.

On Saturday, October 3, 5B Resilience Gardens is hosting a gardening workshop at the Grange Garden. This hands-on, outdoor, workshop will include: constructing a 3-bin composting system, harvesting potatoes from a potato tower, preparing garden beds for the winter, a seed saving discussion, and fall planting techniques. What to bring: • Work gloves, tools & supplies (details upon registration) • Compost materials: green matter for nitrogen (non-meat and dairy food waste, fresh lawn clippings, fresh manure) and brown matter for carbon (dried leaves, shredded paper, bark pieces) • Your own homemade compost • Lunch to enjoy in the garden! For those interested, we will exchange finished compost to enhance the biodiversity of existing composting systems in the community. Redfish Lake Lodge is excited to host the 10th annual (rescheduled!) Redfish Lake Lodge Memorial Run, a U.S.F.S. permitted event.  Thank you to all of last year’s participants. All races will begin and end at the Lodge The Half Marathon and 10K course will be on paved, gravel, and trail surfaces Kid’s race will begin at 9:30 AM – 1 Mile Run ages 3 – 10 Bluefish event will take place at high Noon When registering, look for the pre-race meal on Friday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. The post-race meal is included in the registration for all athletes. Family and friends can enjoy the post-race meal for $7.00 for 10 and older or $4.00 for 9 and under. The outdoor food & beverage gazebo is also open selling fish tacos, pork tacos, hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, wine, and our famous “Living the Dream Ice-Cream” Half Marathon begins at 10:00 AM at the Lodge 10K begins at 10:30 5K begins at 10:45 Cost & Registration Half Marathon – $55.00 10K – $40.00 5K – $30.00

Food insecurity plagues a devastating number of our neighbors in Blaine County. To help raise awareness and funds to resolve hunger locally, Boulder Mountain Clayworks, The Hunger Coalition, and the Presbyterian Church of the Big Wood are hosting the 10th Annual Empty Bowls event on Sunday, January 17 from 12 noon – 2 pm at the Church of the Big Wood. During this signature community event, attendees purchase locally made ceramic bowls for $20 per bowl, then fill the bowl with scratch-made soups, salads, chili, bread and dessert donated by local chefs and caterers. Thanks to Boulder Mountain Clayworks, there will be more than 300 hand-crafted and hand-painted bowls from local artisans to select from this year. We hope to see you there! Boulder Mountain Clayworks in partnership with The Wood River Valley Hunger Coalition brings you the Empty Bowls Luncheon.  Purchase a bowl for $20 and sample soups, salads, beverages and deserts made and donated by the best chefs in the Valley!
