A weekly group for memoir and autobiography writing, led by Tony Tekaroniake Evans. The workshops will be fashioned around the mythologist Joseph Campbell’s idea of the “Hero’s Journey.” We will also identify Jungian archetypes in our life stories. Wednesdays, October 14 – November 18 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (MST) on Zoom. Registration is required. REGISTER HERE. The Creative Writing Workshop provides a supportive atmosphere where local writers can share their work. Please bring your favorite books, stories, and poems, and samples of your works-in-progress. Writing topics, styles and techniques will be explored weekly. Tony Tekaroniake Evans is an award-winning journalist and columnist at the Idaho Mountain Express newspaper in Ketchum who has led writing workshops in the Wood River Valley since 2004. He is also a memoir editor and the author of two books of nonfiction: Teaching Native Pride: Upward Bound and the Legacy of Isabel Bond (WSU Press 2020) and A History of Indians in the Sun Valley Area (Blaine County Historical Museum 2016). His forthcoming book, Memory and Destiny, the Life of Glenn Janss, releases in 2021.

Learn how to make functional wheel thrown pots by using a table top banding wheel, as well as a slow turning electric wheel. Using earthenware in electric kilns, Sasha plays with surface decorations that both depict imagery and mimic atmospheric effects. If you love Soda-Fired, atmospheric effects but only have access to an electric kiln, these techniques will help you further your exploration in interesting spontaneous results. WITH COMPANY OF FOOLS ARTIST CHRIS CARWITHEN If you could tell a story about life today, what would you share? The global health crisis has changed us all. Who are you now? Use this time of worldwide disruption to express yourself and connect with others by sharing your personal experience through the art of performance. This two-day workshop will provide a safe space to discover our inner narrative through the exercise of monologue writing and performance. On day one, participants will learn the building blocks of monologue creation and begin crafting an original monologue. On day two, participants will discuss and workshop their pieces, culminating in the opportunity for each participant to perform their newly created monologue with the class. *THIS IS A TWO-DAY WORKSHOP THAT TAKES PLACE ON MON, NOV 2, FROM 6–8 PM & NOV 9 FROM 6–9 PM AT THE LIBERTY THEATRE, HAILEY. Can you describe what you see? Art inspires, captures, escapes, disrupts, disturbs, conceals, and reveals. It also helps us learn to look more carefully, reminding us that what we think we see is not all there is. In this time of mis-seeing and misunderstanding, careful looking is ethical and urgent work. Please join us for ninety minutes of generative writing exercises based on the current exhibition. Experiment with new ways to view art and play with language. Located in Bonni’s Garden at the Y. The workshop is focused on planning, harvesting branches, and preparing them for the actual weaving. That is the most time-consuming part of making a basket. A short demonstration of how to start the basket, which is crucial, will be given. Instructions for the actual weaving will be handed out so that participants can weave their basket on their own. Instructor: Manon Gaudreau. The branch harvesting and the weaving techniques are described in full in the book HANDMADE BASKETS FROM NATURE’S COLOURFUL MATERIALS by Susie Vaughan. Reading the book ahead of the workshop would be an asset.
