Martin Scorsese assembled a team of incredible filmmakers to memorialize the landmark final concert by The Band on November 25, 1976. Held at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco and promoted by the legendary Bill Graham, the concert was originally only going to feature the Band. Once it was suggested they add a few old friends such as Bob Dylan to the lineup, the list of performers grew to include a who’s who of rock and soul musicians of the era. Other notable performers in the movie include Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Emmylou Harris Ringo Star and many more. The film includes concert footage, studio shoots, and interviews with the band that take a candid look at the life performers who have achieved success beyond their wildest dreams and wonder ...

Micky and the Motorcars @ The Mint
8:00 pm
Thirteen years can put a hell of a lot of wear and tear on even the hardiest of rock ’n’ roll bands. But don’t be fooled by all those hundreds of thousands of miles on Micky & the Motorcars’ odometer: pop the hood of Hearts From Above, the long-running Austin band’s seventh album, and you’ll find a brand-new engine, fine-tuned and good to run for at least as many more miles still ahead. And behind the wheel? Two brothers and founding members Micky Braun (lead vocals and guitar) and Gary Braun (guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and vocals) invigorated and supercharged by a transfusion of new blood from fresh recruits Josh Owen (lead guitar, pedal steel guitar), Joe Fladger (bass), and Bobby Paugh (drums). Micky and Gary, who by their own admission, haven’t been this fired up about playing together since they first rode south from the Whitecloud Mountains of Idaho to stake their claim to Texas and wider Americana music scenes. Yonder Mountain String Band @ The Mint
8:00 pm
For the past 20 years, Yonder Mountain String Band has redefined bluegrass music, expanding the traditional acoustic genre beyond its previously established boundaries by steadily pushing the envelope into the realms of rock n’ roll and improvisation. YMSB—guitarist Adam Aijala, bassist Ben Kaufmann, banjo player Dave Johnston, Jacob Joliff on mandolin and violinist Allie Kral–has always played music of their own design, in the process attracting a devout following of fans that often resembles a tight-knit family on an epic musical journey as Yonder traverses the country with an ambitious tour schedule. Yonder is a quintessential ensemble honing its craft night after night on the road, and the fans are there to experience it in real time. The result is music that doesn’t stand still, it’s always progressing and breaking unprecedented ground.

Taimane @ Argyros Performing Arts Center
7:30 pm
Now is your chance to catch ukulele virtuoso, songwriter and rising star, Taimane, in a small, intimate venue before bigger stages beckon. She brings her full palette of artistic color to Ketchum for a one-night-only performance. Taimane’s performance will feature her band, Jonathan Heraux (percussion) and Ramiro Marziani (classical guitar), as well as a Polynesian dancer. This January in New York, Taimane was one of the biggest buzz artists at the largest performing arts conference in the world. She quickly built additional momentum at the mega SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas where National Public Radio (NPR) hailed Taimane as one of the week’s stand-out artists. Sun Valley Music Festival Winter Series @ Argyros Performing Arts Center
12:00 am
For community members who live in Sun Valley year-round, and those who flock to the recreational opportunities the area provides in the winter, the Sun Valley Music Festival aims to provide an uncommonly rich concert experience. The Winter Concert Series will feature familiar and unfamiliar musical pieces in a refreshingly new environment, exploiting a wide range of acoustic possibilities and encouraging concertgoers to interact and engage with musicians in fresh ways. By up-ending the traditional structure of an orchestral performance, the concerts aim to reinvent what it means to enjoy music together. Stay tuned for details later in 2019. “Our goal is to create an event unlike any other our concertgoers have attended—a shared experience that breaks down the walls between musicians and audience, and re-defines the ways in which classical music can enhance our lives. It won’t feel familiar in every way… but it will be very Sun Valley.” —Alasdair Neale, Music Director I’m speechless.  On the drive home, I was racking my brain for an adequate adjective for this evening’s performance and I’m at a total loss.  Kudos to everyone for one of the most amazing nights of music in my life. —Patron, Winter Festival 2019

Rebecca's Private Idaho @ Various Locations
12:00 am
Taking place over Labor Day Weekend, Rebecca’s Private Idaho is considered one of the top gravel events in the world, for great reasons: Miles and miles of breathtaking riding across some of the most scenic and challenging terrain on earth; a festive vibe that permeates events both on and off the bike, and a limited (but growing) field of ultra-stoked riders, from enthusiasts to pros, who join their World Champion host Rebecca Rusch to test their mettle on the Queen’s Stage Race, Baked Potato, French Fry, and Tater Tot courses, all on Idaho’s stunning gravel back roads. The best part: Every rider’s entry fee and many of the events open to the public raise funds for Rebecca’s nonprofit Be Good™ Foundation, enriching communities from Idaho to Africa by using the bicycle as a catalyst for healing, empowerment and evolution (local beneficiaries include the Wood River Trails Coalition and Idaho Interscholastic Cycling League). Besides participating in the event or cheering riders on, the general public is welcome to enjoy booths, food, beverages and music at Saturday’s Gear Expo at Forest Service Park and Sunday’s Off-the-Wagon Days celebration at Festival Meadows.
