The Sun Valley Center for the Arts will continue its popular Look, Play, Create! classes in the new year to give young children and their caregivers more opportunities to get creative together. These free classes are offered at The Center in Ketchum on the second Thursday of every month — Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 12, April 9, and May 14, 2020 — from 10 to 11 a.m. Look, Play, Create! introduces young children (ages 1–5) to art through a series of “looking” activities and age-appropriate “messy fun” art projects. Patrons are encouraged to check The Center’s website for monthly project themes and class updates. “Our goal is to engage young families and connect them to the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, where they can learn and have fun together through playful art experiences,” said Susie Quinn Fortner, Teacher and Visual Arts Education Program Coordinator at The Center. In addition to its Look, Play, Create! program, The Center also hosts three free Family Day events over the course of the year. Grab the kiddos and come down to the Sun Valley Village for one of the biggest Easter Egg Hunts around, with over 5,000 eggs! The hunt will begin at 5:00pm sharp and the Easter bunny will be present for photos beginning at 5:15 pm. Age groups will be divided into zones for ‘little ones’. Please bring your own basket. Redfish Lake Lodge is excited to host the 10th annual Redfish Lake Lodge Memorial Run, a U.S.F.S. permitted event.  Thank you to all of last year’s participants. All races will begin and end at the Lodge The Half Marathon and 10K course will be on paved, gravel, and trail surfaces Kid’s race will begin at 9:30 AM – 1 Mile Run ages 3 – 10 Bluefish event will take place at high Noon When registering, look for the pre-race meal on Friday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. The post-race meal is included in the registration for all athletes. Family and friends can enjoy the post-race meal for $7.00 for 10 and older or $4.00 for 9 and under. The City of Ketchum is inviting residents and visitors to come on down to Town Square and celebrate as the longest day of the year gives way to our brilliant dark and starry skies. The city’s 3rd annual Summer Solstice bash is planned for Saturday, June 20 from 4 to 9 p.m. The family-friendly event marking the start of the summer season includes a balloon clown, face painters, jugglers, magicians, henna artist and art activities designed just for kids (and maybe a grown up or two!) Local food and beverage vendors will be serving it up with drink specials, and the Jeff Crosby Band will perform! There will also be special programming to celebrate June as “Dark Sky Month,” as well as the city’s status as a Dark Sky Community and its inclusion in the nation’s first Dark Sky Reserve.
