Che Apalache is a four-man string band based in Buenos Aires with members from Argentina, Mexico, and the United States. They call their musical style Latingrass, a mix of South American music and Bluegrass, and their repertoire ranges from vivid Latin rhythms to a cappella mountain gospel songs sung in four-part harmony. Combining instrumental prowess with tight vocal harmonies, they have created an authentic blend of genres to reflect the nature of their lives. Evoking images from Appalachia to the Andes, their debut album, “Latingrass,” is a testament to a powerful cultural and musical exchange. Every performer in the Winter Performing Arts Series will be performing in local schools as a part of The Center’s ongoing commitment to arts education. The Professional Artist Residencies are supported by Joyce B. Friedman in memory of Norman Friedman, Robin Leavitt and Terry Friedlander, Jane Rosen and Scott Miley—Scott Miley Roofing, Kay, Tenney and Bozo Cardozo, Bex Wilkinson and the Marshall Frankel Foundation, and Neil Zussman and Cathy Whinnery and in part by public funding for the arts through the National Endowment for the Arts, WESTAF, the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the Idaho Legislature.

One of the most popular holiday traditions in the Wood River Valley is the 16th annual Turkey Trot held on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 28.  The 5K Fun Run and Walk, sponsored by The Chamber – Hailey & Wood River Valley, is a great community event and is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. Nearly 600 folks are expected to enjoy trotting on Thanksgiving Day in downtown Hailey, along the Big Wood River and through the Wood River Land Trust’s beautiful Draper Wood River Preserve. The Turkey Trot starts at 10:00am at Sturtevant’s in Hailey, located at 1 West Carbonate.  As Chamber Executive Director Mike McKenna notes, “It’s the perfect way to burn off some calories with your friends and neighbors before the big feast. We invite you to come out and join us.” All participants are strongly encouraged to pre-register online through 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, November 27 at www.haileyidaho.com. The Papoose Club annual Holiday Bazaar is typically held on the first full weekend of December at the Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum. The Holiday Bazaar is a juried arts show that features wonderful hand-made gifts from more than 50 artists from across the Intermountain West. ​Wood River Valley’s top market for buying gifts for friends and family: sweets, ceramics, handblown glass, clothing, jewelry, handbags, birdhouses, decorative objects, textiles, and more. The Papoose Club volunteers offer delicious hot soup in the Soup Café and sell home baked holiday cookies by the dozen. The Holiday Bazaar Raffle has become famous for its unique a la carte offering of wide array of raffle items and local business services. Santa Claus also comes to the Holiday Bazaar to visit with children on Sunday.  Vendors: Check back in September for the 2019 application. Contact bazaar@papooseclub.org with questions.

Christmas Eve Celebration | Skating in a Winter Wonderland Ice Show, Dollar Torchlight Parade & Fireworks Gates open @ 3:00 pm, Show starts at 5:30 pm The ice show will highlight modern renditions of classic holiday music. Group numbers will be performed by the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club and visiting holiday guests. The traditional appearances by the Sun Valley Carolers and Santa Claus are on the schedule, followed by the Dollar torchlight parade and fireworks. Ice show seating available in the bleachers (some will be reserved for hotel guests and visitors who are less mobile) and on the Lodge Terrace. Stick around for the Dollar Torchlight Parade that will immediately follow the Ice Show. Free hot cocoa & cookies will be served. 5:30 pm | Carolers and ‘Skating in a Winter Wonderland’ ice show, followed by the torchlight parade down Dollar Mountain, fireworks, and a visit by Santa!
