SVMoA Film Screening - First Cow @ Magic Lantern Cinemas
4:00 pm
Sun Valley Museum of Art (SVMoA) is pleased to jump back into presenting films with the reopening of the Magic Lantern Cinemas. New this fall, The Museum will screen films weekly, starting Thursday, Sept. 24, and continuing through December. The film series will begin with First Cow, followed by Walking on Water (about Christo’s The Floating Piers project on Lake Iseo in Italy), MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival 2020, and the multiple award-winning Honeyland. In First Cow, director Kelly Reichardt trains her perceptive and patient eye on the Pacific Northwest, evoking an authentically hardscrabble early-19th-century way of life. A taciturn loner and skilled cook travels west to join a group of fur trappers in Oregon Territory. Once there, he only finds true connection with a Chinese immigrant who is also seeking his fortune. Soon the two collaborate on a successful business, although its longevity depends upon the clandestine participation of a nearby wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow. First Cow will be screened at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Magic Lantern Cinemas. In the interest of community health and safety, SVMoA has adhered to CDC guidelines and the Governor of Idaho’s orders as it invites people ...

The film series will begin with First Cow, followed by Walking on Water (about Christo’s The Floating Piers project on Lake Iseo in Italy), MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival 2020, and the multiple award-winning Honeyland. The documentary Walking on Water will bring Italy to the big screen on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. at the Magic Lantern Cinemas. Ten years after the passing of his wife and creative partner, Jeanne-Claude, Christo sets out to realize The Floating Piers, a project they conceived together many years before. Walking on Water is an unprecedented look at Christo’s process, from the inception to the completion of his latest large-scale art installation, a dahlia-yellow walkway atop Italy’s Lake Iseo that was experienced by over 1.2 million people. The film takes viewers on an intimate journey into Christo’s world amid mounting madness — from complex dealings between art and state politics to engineering challenges, logistical nightmares, and the sheer force of Mother Nature. ...
