SVMoA Performing Arts Residency and Concert Series: Brett Dennen @ Argyros Performing Arts Center
7:30 pm
Brett Dennen is a nationally known, beloved singer-songwriter who has played at Austin City Limits, Newport Folk and Telluride Bluegrass Festivals and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman and Conan O’Brien. His songs are carefully crafted, beautiful and often exhibit a wry sense of humor. In addition to his skill as a musician, Brett is an active philanthropist, environmentalist and avid skier. His love of skiing led Dennen to create his “Lift Series” tour, of which this stop in Sun Valley is a part of his visits to his favorite ski resorts. This tour combines Dennen’s love of skiing with his deep concern over the environment and future of resort towns in the face of changing climate. All attendees at SVMoA performances and residency activities must wear a mask. Concert guests over age 5 (starting on January 1, 2022) must also show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the performance. Sun Valley Opera's Signature Salon Starring Jonah Hoskins with Mary Hoskins @ The Argyros | Ketchum | Idaho | United States
5:30 pm
Jonah Hoskins is a tenor from Saratoga Springs, Utah. Since winning the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2020, he has been a member of the prestigious Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. He is thrilled to make his Met debut this winter in Cendrillon as the Dean of Faculty. This past Fall Jonah placed second at the International Operalia Competition. We are fortunate to be catching this rising star, while we can. Jonah’s sister, Mary, a soprano recently had an opportunity to participate at Wolf Trap Opera as a Studio Artist. She was also selected as a semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Mary learned to love singing with her family on long road trips. However, she fell into opera by accident when Jonah signed her up for audition without her foreknowledge or consent. It was at that program that she fell in love with the art form. Together they will perform beautiful arias and songs they call “car ride favorites”. The Signature Salon evening will begin at 5:30pm with a wine and light hors d’oeuvres reception followed by the concert at 6:30pm.

One of the best live acts to come out of Ireland in recent years, the award-winning We Banjo 3 combines supergroup credentials with a breathtaking command of the emotive power of fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo. SVMoA Performing Arts Residency and Concert Series: Portland Cello Project’s “Purple Reign” @ Argyros Performing Arts Center
7:30 pm
What started in 2006 as a one-off with a group of nine cellists onstage at Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge has evolved into a nationally recognized performing, recording and educational group with a revolving cast of cellists. Portland Cello Project (PCP) has developed a three-part philosophy that has mostly remained unchanged over the years: Bring the cello places you wouldn’t normally see it; perform music on the cello you wouldn’t normally associate with the instrument alongside music from the Western Classical Tradition; and build bridges between different musical communities through education, community outreach and collaboration with myriad artists. And now PCP turns the evening purple, blending their deep textures with the unique harmonic landscape of the artistic power of Prince. Joined by musicians who have worked with Prince, such as Saeeda Wright and Tyrone Hendrix, PCP will perform a lively evening of diversely curated music that influenced – or was influenced by – The Purple One. PCP’s outreach activities in Wood River Valley schools are supported, in part, with funds provided by the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF), the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
