From Farm to Table: Sun Valley’s Freshest Dining

Kicking it back old school, the idea of “farm-to-table” would have made most people laugh. ‘How else would we eat?’ they might have asked. These days, after decades of disconnect between how food is produced and how it is consumed, a growing movement is helping to re-connect diners with the fresh taste of local ingredients.

Here in Sun Valley, we are lucky to have innovative community groups, markets, and restaurants that pushed the idea of farm-to-table dining and experiences quickly to the mainstream. Are you ready to know what fresh tastes like? You can find it here.

Farm to Table Restaurants

The Sun Valley area is full of farm-to-table dining options focused on cooking delicious meals with seasonal ingredients. Here are just a few of our favorites (for a complete list, check out the Local Food Alliance’s Fresh Food Guide).

CK’s Real Food

CK’s Real Food, located in Hailey, has its motto right there in the name: real food. Chef Chris Kastner and his team make almost everything from scratch and buy directly from local farmers and ranchers. CK’s is known as the Valley’s premier farm-to-table restaurant.

Rasberry’s Catering & Bistro

Owned by twin sisters Callie and Maeme Rasberry, Rasberry’s Catering & Bistro serves lunch daily at their restaurant in Ketchum. They are also well-loved for their pastries, pantry staples such as pickled beets and marmalade, and their spice blends.

Farm to Table at Home

On those nights where you’d rather stay in than go out, it’s easy to bring the farm right to your own table.

The Wood Rivers Farmers Markets is your go-to destination for some of the freshest produce, meats, and dairy in the Valley. The market in Ketchum is held on Wednesdays from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm from June through October, and the market in Hailey is held on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm from June through October.

At the markets, local farmers such as Squash Blossom Farm, Lookout Farm, Kraay’s Market and Garden, Shooting Star Farm, Silver Spring Ranch, Wood River Ranch Beef, Lava Lake Lamb, and many others from the Wood River Valley and beyond sell their latest harvests. The markets also offer free seasonal recipe cards, so you can craft that perfect meal from the ingredients you find.

Locally-grown products can be found year-round on the shelves of Atkinsons’ Markets in Ketchum, Hailey, and Bellevue, NourishMe in Ketchum, the Wood River Sustainability Center in Hailey, and via delivery from Kraay’s Market & Garden.

Remix: Table to Farm Dinners

Instead of bringing the farm to your table, you can grab a spot at a table on the farm! The Elevated Table dinner series offers the chance to eat the freshest food in beautiful outdoor settings.

In partnership with the Local Food Alliance, three dinners are hosted each summer, each one on-site at a different local farm. Chef Sean Temple works with the farmers to craft a menu based on what is in season.

Whether you’re at home, at a restaurant, or on the farm, the farms and ranches in the Sun Valley area are dedicated to bringing the freshest, most vibrant food to your table. Eat flavorful, eat seasonal, eat local!
