The Wood River Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society is sponsoring a trip out Fish Creek (between Craters of the Moon and Carey) to look at some gargantuan aspen trees and measure them for a possible state record! After nosing around some more for wildflowers in seed or still in bloom, we can finish up with refreshments at Silver Creek Store. Plan to drive yourself or carpool with masks. Either meet at Hailey Park and Ride, ready to leave at 9 am, or meet in Picabo to leave Silver Creek Store at 9:45 am. Expect to be home around 2 pm. Details: Our programs are free, but we do encourage memberships in the state organization. Wear sturdy shoes, dress appropriately for fall weather, and bring water, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellent, and hiking poles if you use them. There isn’t a lot of walking involved this time, but the ground is uneven.
You don’t need to know much about wildflowers to go out with us. Our group consists of hikers, birders, butterfly lovers, tree huggers, scientists, photographers, and lots of folks who just think plants are pretty. You’ll fit right in! Details about the Idaho Native Plant Society are available at More information about this One Big Tree jaunt is available at 208-721-2583.
