2020 Sun Valley Wellness Festival & Conference Goes Full Virtual;

Top speakers to address how to stay well during the pandemic and other timely wellness topics

The Sun Valley Wellness Festival & Conference (SVWellness), is widely recognized as the longest-running wellness festival in the world with a well-deserved reputation of attracting the world’s greatest thought-leaders. Its 23rd annual event, rescheduled to August 21-24, 2020 will now take place virtually online and will feature an outstanding line up of renowned speakers addressing COVID-19 and other timely wellness topics.

2020 SVWellness speakers include keynote speaker and sleep expert Matthew Walker PhD and featured speaker from the frontlines of COVID-19, University of Washington Director of Infectious Disease Medicine, Seth Cohen, MD, MSc.  Other featured speakers include Dr. Eben Alexander, Dr. Zach Bush, Nora McInerny, Dr. Sasha Heinz, and others. Walker and McInerny’s Ted Talks were in the top five most popular Talks viewed in 2019.

The speakers will each address important current wellness topics within their area of expertise, according to Andria Friesen, SVWellnessBoard President. “Indeed, it’s a surreal time for our world and if ever there was a time for Wellness it’s now. We have worked diligently to produce our 2020 Sun Valley Wellness Event with highly relevant content and have adapted it to a virtual online format so it is widely accessible to all, knowing that the information that will be offered is perhaps needed now more than ever.”

Friesen noted that the roster of speakers is unprecedented for SVWellness, and a number of them will directly address the pandemic crisis at hand.  The diverse subject matters the speakers will cover on the wellness pillars of Mind, Body, Spirit and Environment involves the latest research in other areas including depression, grief, Alzheimer’s prevention, heart disease, cancer, and neuroscience. 

The 2020 SVWellness Virtual will feature content-rich programming with over 20 virtual online presentations including several guided meditation sessions and an array of movement classes – all facilitated by top wellness experts addressing various aspects of body, mind, spirit, and environmental wellness. The SVWFC Experience Park, which was planned to be held outdoors in Forest Service Park, will not take place this year.



Keynote speaker Matthew Walker, PhD is a sleep scientist and researcher on the cutting-edge of findings related to sleep and how sleep directly relates to human health and disease, including the COVID-19 virus. The pandemic virus has been so disruptive, bringing new stressors, anxiety, and even sleepless nights to many. Now, more than ever, the immune-boosting, stress-reducing effects of quality sleep are critical to keep us healthy and resilient and no one knows this better than sleep expert Dr. Walker. His New York Times best-selling book, Why We Sleep, provides a complete description of, and prescription for, sleep, and his Ted Talk was one of the five highest viewed in 2019. With charting cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs, and synthesizing decades of research and clinical practice, WhyWe Sleep explains how we can harness sleep to prevent illness including cancer, Alzheimer’s, obesity and diabetes. It also describes how sleep can slow the effects of aging; increase longevity; improve learning, mood, and energy levels; regulate hormones, enhance the education and lifespan of our children; and boost the efficiency, success, and productivity of our businesses. Other 2020 SVWFC featured speakers and presenters include Seth Cohen, MD,MSc, COVID-19 expert and Chief of Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine at the University of Washington;  Dr. Zach Bush, one of the few triple board-certified physicians in the world and microbiome expert who has become an important and respected voice on COVID-19; Nora McInerny, a grief expert and best-selling author & host of Terrible, Thanks for Asking Podcast, whose Ted Talk was one of the top five highest viewed in 2019; Dr. Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon whose near-death experience lead him to profound insights, and a journey to comprehend the true nature of consciousness; Austyn Wells, a renowned spiritual medium, ‘soul gardener’ and author who empowers individuals to live soul-centered lives; Sasha Heinz, PhD, developmental psychologist, expert in Positive Psychology, and Getting Unstuck; David Pond, nationally recognized astrologer, author, speaker and international workshop leader, and Albert Flynn DeSilver a respected writer, speaker, and master mindfulness meditation teacher.


Movement classes will be taught online by a select group of experienced teachers including Jenn Perell Bush, conscious consultant, and yoga instructor; Erica Linson, energy medicine practitioner; Brenda Powell, exercise physiologist, nutritionist and yoga teacher and Katherine Pleasants, certified yoga instructor.
