Las Cafeteras

When: October 21, 2022 @ 7:30 pm
Where: Wood River High School Performing Arts Theatre, 1250 Fox Acres Dr, Hailey, ID 83333, USA

Born and raised East of the Los Angeles River, Las Cafeteras are remixing roots music as modern-day troubadours. They are a sonic explosion of Afro-Mexican rhythms, electronic beats and powerful rhymes that document stories of a community seeking to “build a world where many worlds fit.” From Afro-Mexican to Americana, from Soul to Son Jarocho, from Roots to Rock and Hip Hop, Las Cafeteras take folk music to the future. Las Cafeteras honor the past by using electrifying traditional instrumentation like the eight-string Jarana, four-string Requinto, Quijada (donkey jawbone) and Tarima (a wooden platform). Las Cafeteras sing in five distinct languages, English, Spanish, Spanglish, Love and Justice…and they believe everyone understands at least one of those languages. PART OF SVMOA’S 2-MONTH-LONG COMMUNITY CELEBRATION “HONORING TRADITIONS: DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS,” MADE POSSIBLE IN PART THROUGH A MAJOR GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES: DEMOCRACY DEMANDS WISDOM.

In a Landscape: Classical Music in the Wild

When: September 11, 2022 @ 4:30 pm
Where: Simons Bauer Preserve, Hailey, 255 Croy St, Hailey, ID 83333, USA

Founded in 2016 by classical pianist Hunter Noack, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild™ is an outdoor concert series where America’s most stunning landscapes replace the traditional concert hall. A 9-foot Steinway grand piano travels on a flatbed trailer to National Parks, urban greenspaces, working ranches, farms, and historical sites for classical music concerts that connect people with each landscape. To meet the acoustical challenges of performing in the wild, sound is transmitted to concert-goers via wireless headphones. No longer confined to seats, audiences are free to explore the landscape in this approachable classical music experience. IN A LANDSCAPE will take place in Hailey at the Wood River Land Trust’s new Simons/Bauer Preserve directly west of Lions Park. This gorgeous meadow location is close to Hailey and will provide a fantastic view of both the piano and the fall colors.
