Getting Around Sun Valley and Ketchum: Transportation Options

SH-75 - Elkhorn Road to River Street Project

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is constructing improvements on State Highway 75 (SH-75) between Elkhorn Road and River Street in Ketchum.

In 2025, crews: 

  • Widened SH-75 between south of Elkhorn Road and Neil's Way.
  • Began widening SH-75 between Neil's Way and Serenade Lane.
  • Completed the east half of the Trail Creek Bridge.

Work resumed on the Trail Creek Bridge in early February

Crews resumed work to improve and expand the Trail Creek Bridge on Monday, February 2, 2026. Work to expand SH-75 between Elkhorn Road and River Street is scheduled to resume this spring.

What to expect in 2026:

  • Work will occur Monday-Sunday during the daytime.
  • Southbound Trail Creek Bridge traffic will be detoured to 2nd Avenue.
  • Traffic changes will occur on SH-75 and local roads.
  • One lane is expected to remain open in each direction on SH-75 between Elkhorn Road and the Trail Creek Bridge.
  • Speed limits will be reduced.

In 2026, crews will:

  • Construct the west half of the Trail Creek Bridge.
  • Complete improvements to the intersection of SH-75 and Elkhorn Road.
  • Complete improvements to SH-75 between Elkhorn Road and Weyyakin Drive.
  • Widen SH-75 between Weyyakin Drive and River Street.
  • Construct improvements to the intersection of SH-75 and Serenade Lane.

Work is expected to occur:

  • Monday-Friday from 6:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays from 7:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
  • Sundays from 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Bus Service

When you visit Sun Valley, transportation around the area is a breeze. No need to rent a car; just hop on one of the FREE and easy Mountain Rides buses that will get you where you need to go around Ketchum and Sun Valley. With four "Around Town" routes in the Summer and six in the Winter, it's easy to get to your many destinations including Dollar and Bald Mountain, Ketchum Town Square, Sun Valley Resort, and dozens of other stops. Bus schedules differ by route, with many coming as often as every 15 minutes. And skis, snowboards, and bicycles are no sweat!   • Red Route – Elkhorn to River Run and Ketchum
  • Gold Route – Dollar Mountain, Sun Valley to River Run
  • Silver Route – Sun Valley to River Run
  • Bronze Route – Sun Valley to Warm Springs and River Run

Galena Route

  • There will not be service via Mountain Rides to Galena this winter. 

Airport Service

  • A new free direct Airport Shuttle will operate during a trial period from February 16 through April 30, 2026.
  • The schedule aligns with existing routes and is designed to support year-round flight times.
  • Reservations are not required.

Arriving at the SUN airport: 

  • Look for the Mountain Rides shuttle outside baggage claim and ride to one of the four stops
  • Pick up from Airport to Hotels: 11:00 am, 12:30 pm, & 10:20 pm
  • Worried about a late flight arrival? Rest assured knowing we’ll wait!

Heading to the airport: 

  • Catch the shuttle at any of the designated stops
  • Pickup from Hotels to Airport:
    • Sun Valley Lodge: 5:30 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, & 3:00 pm
    • Sun Valley Visitor Center: 5:34 am, 1:04 pm, 2:00 pm, & 3:00 pm
    • Limelight Hotel: 5:37 am, 1:07 pm, 2:07 pm, & 3:21pm

  • Reservations ahead of time are highly recommended as service times vary. 

  • We also suggest asking the taxi company what their rates are ahead of time as these fluctuate widely.
